Climate Adaptation Conference: From Risk to Action
Sintra Green Summit aims to become one of Portugal's largest climate and sustainability events, bringing together policy makers, the scientific community, businesses and citizens, and positioning Sintra as a national and European reference in the transition to a more resilient future.
Portugal is entering a decisive cycle in putting the climate agenda into practice. The Climate Framework Law, RNA2100, ENAAC 2030, PNEC 2030 and the new European funding instruments now translate into concrete obligations for territories and into opportunities that should not be wasted. Sintra Green Summit was created to meet that moment: turning legal obligations, climate targets and financial instruments into real answers for people and for territories.
Over two days, the event brings together policy makers, mayors, researchers, companies, funders, associations, schools and citizens around six thematic areas. The presence of citizens is not incidental - it is a condition for a debate meant to be open, plural and rooted in the territory.
From 2029, the Summit moves to a biennial cycle.
«To make Sintra a meeting point for thinking about the future of territories.»
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Its impacts are increasingly felt in territories, in communities and in everyday life, demanding vision and the capacity to act.
Sintra is a territory of great diversity, where urban areas, rural and forest landscapes, an extensive coastline and a natural and cultural heritage of great value coexist. This richness also brings a greater responsibility to protect the people of Sintra, its ecosystems and its infrastructure from climate risks.
It is in this context that we are promoting the Sintra Green Summit, an initiative that aims to establish itself as a national and European reference for reflection and action on climate resilience and territorial regeneration.
Our ambition is clear. To make Sintra a meeting point for thinking about the future of territories.
Because, in the face of the climate emergency, we need more action and less intention.
Portugal’s Climate Framework Law requires municipalities to adopt climate action plans.
Heatwaves, wildfires and floods are becoming more frequent and intense.
Adaptation needs investment and mechanisms that protect people and assets.
Grids and transport must withstand extreme weather while decarbonising.
Forests, soils and the coast are the territory’s first line of protection.
Data and monitoring help anticipate risks and make better decisions.
Programme subject to confirmation. Speakers and moderators to be announced.
The line-up is being built. The first speakers will be confirmed soon.
The Summit closes with the signing of the Sintra Declaration 2030, a municipal commitment to climate adaptation.
